Anxiety anddepression in patients with spinal cord injury - Spinal cord injuries (SCI) are often followed by psychological consequences, mostly anxiedty and depression. In this study, we evaluatedthe extent of anxiety anddepression in SCI patients and the factors contibuting to their genesis were also investigated. Forthis reason 25 patients withSCI were included in this study. The two psychological pathologies observed in patients were anxiety (52%) and depression (61%). Subjects with complete lesions and quadriplegics tended to be more depressed than the others (p<0.001). The patients single or divorced were more depressed 8p<0.05). FIM scores were higher in patients without depression (p<0.001). Patients with severe complications such as pain spasticity, pressure sores and miyozitis ossificans were significantly more anxious and depressed (p<0.001). Patients who have lesser social support and whose functional status are poorer are more prone to psychological problems.
