(A New Approach For Neglect In Stroke Patients: Electrical Stimulation With Mesh-Glove)In this study short and long term effects of mesh-glove application on neglect was investigated. Thirty-one stroke patients, age ranged between 19 and 79 years, were included in the study. Star cancellation, line cancellation and line bisection tests were used to assess neglect. Tests were repeated in patients with neglect while applying electrical stimulation with mesh-glove to the hemiplegic hand of the patients. In addition to standard rehabilitation program, mesh-glove application was continued in these patients 30 minutes a day, for 2 months. At the end of 2 months, neglect tests were repeated without electrical stimulation. Changes in the neglect scores with stimulation and within time were analysed. Neglect was detected in 8 patients. During the first assessment mean scores were 25.0±15.3 for star cancellation and 20.3±9.3 for line cancellation and there was 39.5±26.8 mm deviation from the midpoint in line bisection test in patients with neglect. There was significant improvement in star cancellation test during electrical stimulation with mesh-glove, and in star and line cancellation tests after 2 months. In conclusion; electrical stimulation with mesh-glove leads to functional gain by improving neglect.
