Gait in hemiplegic patients is generally disturbed and quantitative walking analysis is usually used for evaluation of functional recovery in this group. This study is planned to evaluate the effects of lesion, localization, balance, sensory and motor impairment, spasticity, motor and functional recovery on walking speed and distance. This study included 30 patients with a history of cerebrovascular accident for at least 3 months. Motor recovery was evaluated by modified Fugl-Meyer scale; functional recovery was evaluated by Rivermead Mobility Index (RMI). Walking speed was calculated by the time necessary to walk 10 meter distance. Aschworth scale for spasticity, manuel muscle testing for muscle strength and proprioception and tactile sensation for sensory evaluation were performed. As a result, we found that the factors effecting walking speed were; assisted gait device, Fugl-Meyer scale and flexion and extension muscle strength in both knee and ankle. Walking distance was found to be mostly effected by Fugl-Meyer scale, RMI and lesion in corona radiata.
