Relationship Between Shoulder Subluxation and Pain in Flaccid Stage Hemiplegic Patients Shoulder subluxation and shoulder pain are frequent complications in hemiplegic patients. In this study, shoulder pain, subluxation and their relation were evaluated in flaccid stage hemiplegic patients. Thirty cases (16 females,14 males) were included in the study. All  cases were in flaccid stage. Pain at rest and pain with passive motion were graded by using 6 point verbal scale. Each patient’s shoulder x-ray graphies were taken at anterior oblique position and were graded from 0 to 4 according to vertical subluxation. Twenty four cases  (80%) had shoulder pain. In 16 patients pain was present at rest  and during passive motion. In 8 patients pain was present only during passive motion. Glenohumeral joint subluxations were found in 22 of 30 patients (73%). Fifteen of the patients had grade 1, six had grade 2, one had grade 3 subluxation. Statistical analysis revealed no significant correlation between subluxation and pain. In addition, no significant correlation was found between grade of subluxation and grade of pain. Our findings suggest that,in flaccid stage hemiplegic patients  subluxation may develop without producing shoulder pain and grade of subluxation is not correlated with grade of pain.
