This study was carried out to define the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics and servisce use among children with cerebral palsy in Konya. Mothers of 52 children with cerebral palsy followed at Konya Selçuk University Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinic and two private clinics were interviewed by means of a questionnaire in August 2000; clinical characteristics were gathered through clinical records. Educational level of mothers and fathers was significantly higher than the average of population in Konya; and all of the families in the study have health insurance and this was also significantly higer compared to the average population. A crude estimation for the number of children with cerebral palsy in Konya made using the lowest and the highest probable prevalences. It was estimated that 719 and 5752 cases exist in Konya. Considering that our study has covered more than half of the service capacity in Konya, and the majority of families followed by the clinics in 30 days; we have concluded that coverage rate of rehabilitation services was low. Frequency of visits in private clinics were significantly higher than university clinic. Differences in use of service and quality should be investigated specifically by future research and specific measurements were found as necessary.
