Disorders of the craniomandiubular muscles play an important role in the etiology of  temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Muscles of the cervical region provide efficient functioning of the jaw muscles by contributing to the stabilization of the mandibula. Torticollis related to sternocleidomastoid muscle pathology may lead to TMJ dysfunction both by affecting cervical posture and by causing changes in adjacent bones.
