Objectıve: The purpose of this study the effectiveness of physical therapy in patients with chronic low back pain to evaluate in terms of pain and functional status.

 

Materıals-Methods: The study included 60 patients with low back pain and was divided randomly into two groups. Physical therapy modalities, exercise and medical treatment given to one group (Group 1), another was given just exercise and medical treatment (Group 2). The effectiveness of therapy in terms of pain was evaluated with Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and in terms of functional status were assessed by the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) after the treatment.

 

Results: Significant improvements in both groups in terms of VAS and ODI were obtained after treatment. Significant changes were observed in terms of VAS and ODI according to group 2 in group 1 after the treatment. 

 

Conclusıon: Besides medical and exercise therapy in the treatment of chronic low back pain should be included in physical therapy practice.
