Myelomeningocele (MMC), is a complex syndrome that affects mainly the nervous, musculoskeletal and genitourinary system. It causes lower extremity and spinal colon deformities and affects activity of daily life and mobility. The aim of this study is to determine the present status of neurologic abnormalities, major orthopaedic deformities and ambulatory status in a large myelomeningocele population. In this study, twenty-two boys and eighteen girls included. The average age was 8.87±8.79. We found general spinal deformities in 23 (57.5%) patients, general hip deformities in 28 (70%) patients, general knee deformities in 28 (70%) patients and foot and ankle deformities in 35 (87.5%) patients. Seven (18.4%) of the patients were nonambulators,11 (28.9%)  were nonfunctional ambulators, 14 (36.8%) were household ambulators and 6 (18.8%) were community ambulators. There was significant correlation between general spinal deformities and levels of ambulation (p<0.005). We showed no correlation between hip, knee foot and ankle deformities and levels of ambulation (p>0.05). The most important factor that determined the level of ambulation in our study was functional neurological level.
