Abstract

Summary

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate employment and social issues in adolescents and young adults with cerebral palsy (CP).
Materials and Methods: Twenty-nine patients with CP over 15 years were included in the study. Patients were investigated for their demographical properties, classification of CP, ambulation status, orthoses, mean age at diagnosis, social insurance, education and employment status, hobbies and family income.
Results: All of the patients had social insurance and lived with their families. Two of the 29 patients were employed and the others were completely dependent on their families. About sixty percent (58.7%) of the patients were non-educated and most of the patients (72.4%) were in the middle income group.
Conclusion: Most of the CP patients including social ambulation group lived with their families and were financially depended on their families. Turk J Phys Med Rehab 2006;52(1):37-38
