In this study depression in 221 patients with spinal cord injurly (SCI) was assessed by using Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (ZUNG). While 37.55 % of the patients were mildly depressed, moderate and severe depression was found 14.9 % of the patients. The incidence of depression and ZUNG scores were greater significantly in complete SCI patients than the incomplete ones (p<0.05). There was no relationship between ZUNG scores and age, years of education and level of injury (paraplegic versus tetraplegic). There was a negative correlation between Zung scores and the period of injury (r=0.164, p<0.05). It is concluded that; psychological disruption, including depression, must be taken into cosideration when managing the SCI patient.
